Set up by Front Lounge in 2018 Kindred Clothing is a customised award designed to take learners through the key stages of the garment production process. It is a rich learning experience that offers exciting opportunities to gain access to the fashion industry.

Kindred Clothing (Garment Production):

• Is delivered by experienced professionals (Clothing Making Learning Partnership members), who also provide internships and job opportunities in the fashion industry to promising learners
• Can be delivered in person and online
• Is accredited by SQA, worth 30 credits at SCQF Level 5

The course teaches aspiring garment makers how to:

• Set up and use a sewing machine
• Read and draft a pattern
• Construct a garment Design a garment using mood boards and trend forecasting
• Cost a garment using a costing sheet
• Use practical fashion photography
• Set up and promote a business

To gain the qualification a learner will:

• Keep a learning journal
• Build a portfolio of achievements
• Complete all the necessary assessments
• Complete the mandated number of course hours
• Present a portfolio of work at the end of the course

Successful learners gain access to the Kindred Clothing Graduate Programme which includes fashion industry internships, garment production jobs, and opportunities to deepen skills and further personal development.

The experienced industry professionals who deliver the course are members of Clothes Making Learning Partnership. Collectively, CMLP contributes to the ongoing improvement of the Kindred Clothing course.
